Organizational news from our committee

Kids and adults, we need your artwork!

Do you doodle, draw or paint?  We’re looking for fun, homegrown designs for our next postcard campaign, “Be an Absentee Voter.”

In this year of pandemic, we are convinced that getting our Democratic friends and neighbors to vote absentee is the best way to ensure the turnout we need to eject Trump from the White House and elect Democrats up and down the ballot.

And postcards have been an extremely effective way to reach voters — just look at the remarkable number of absentee votes that Caleb Rogers was able to mobilize in his successful race for Williamsburg City Council, supported by our postcard campaign.

We’re looking for postcard designs that illustrate our message “Be an Absentee Voter” in two different categories:

  • full-color drawings
  • black and white “coloring-page” postcard designs that our kids and grandkids can color as they help their parents write postcards

Our PDF template is 10 x 6.67 inches, and we’ll reduce the finished drawing to fit on a 4 x 6 postcard. Drawings can be horizontal or vertical. Make […]

Join Neighbors United for Change

We’re launching NEIGHBORS UNITED FOR CHANGE, and we hope you’ll sign up to be involved. These groups, organized at the neighborhood level, will work to identify and communicate neighbor-to-neighbor and friend-to-friend. Want to organize an interest group you’re involved with, or a group of your friends? That works too. Or if you’re already a part of an existing neighborhood group, we’d love to work with you.

Cut or sew masks for Mask Force Williamsburg

Mask Force Williamsburg has made and delivered over 1,300 masks for first responders, nursing homes, social workers and other helpers in our community. But there’s a huge need for more masks, especially for disadvantaged people in our community.

Can you help?

  • Can you trace and cut cotton jersey masks?
  • Do you have sewing skills and a sewing machine?

Mask Force Williamsburg was started in April by WJCC Dems board members Christine Payne and MK Sizemore. MK prepares kits with all the materials needed. Laura Tripp coordinates doorstep dropoff of mask kits and pickup of finished masks, and helps prep materials for mask kits. Christine sanitizes finished masks and delivers them to recipients. Mike Hatfield reaches out to recipient groups and coordinates mask requests. Over 50 volunteers have helped sew or cut out masks.

It’s becoming clearer day by day how important good masks are in preventing the spread of COVID-19.  Know of a group in need of masks? Want to help us make more masks? Help us make Williamsburg a safer place. […]
